Owens Corning Attic Insulation Nationwide

Owens Corning Attic Insulation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

If you’re looking for Owens Corning attic insulation in Dallas, here’s the short version: we stock it, we install it, and most jobs in the Dallas area run between $1,800 and $4,200 depending on attic size, current insulation depth, and which Owens Corning product fits your home. We can usually get a crew to your house within 2 to 4 business days. The longer version matters too, because the way most Dallas homeowners discover their attic insulation has failed is not by looking in the attic. It’s a July electric bill that jumps 40 percent, a bedroom that never cools below 80 degrees, or a ceiling that feels warm to the touch at midnight. By the time you notice those symptoms, the insulation has usually been underperforming for at least two Texas summers.

The good news is this is a fixable problem. We have been installing Owens Corning products since 2002, and we give you a written price before the first bag of insulation ever leaves our truck.

Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

Owens Corning makes three main attic insulation lines we install regularly in Dallas homes: AttiCat blown-in fiberglass, ProPink unfaced batt insulation, and EcoTouch batt insulation in various R-values. Each one has a different use case, and matching the right one to your attic matters more than most homeowners expect.

AttiCat is the workhorse for existing attics. It comes as compressed bales we run through a machine and blow across the attic floor to hit a consistent depth, usually R-30 to R-49 for Dallas. ProPink batts are pre-cut pink fiberglass sections we use in attics with open joist bays and no existing blown-in material, and EcoTouch looks similar but uses a plant-based binder instead of the traditional formaldehyde-based one. The compatibility gotcha with Owens Corning batts: the stated R-value assumes the batt sits in a standard 2×6 or 2×10 joist bay, uncompressed. If a previous contractor stuffed an R-30 batt into a 2×4 bay, the real R-value drops close to R-19. We see that in about one out of every four older Dallas attics we open up.

For the OEM versus aftermarket decision: aftermarket fiberglass insulation is a commodity, but the quality spread is real. Off-brand blown fiberglass often settles faster and can dust your attic with fine fibers after a few years. Owens Corning AttiCat is engineered to hold its loft, and after a decade of Texas heat, it still sits where we installed it. That is worth the modest price difference.

Signs Your Owens Corning Attic Insulation Is Failing

  • Uneven room temperatures across your house. The south-facing rooms roast while the north side stays comfortable. That is usually insulation that has shifted, settled, or was never installed evenly in the first place. Blown-in fiberglass settles over years, and in attics with poor ventilation, it can compact to half its original thickness.
  • Ceilings that feel warm on summer evenings. Touch the ceiling in an upstairs room after sunset. If it is noticeably warm to the palm, the attic floor insulation is doing almost nothing. In Dallas, where attic temperatures can hit 150 degrees in August, a thin insulation layer turns your ceiling into a radiator.
  • HVAC bills climbing year over year. Your air conditioner is working harder to overcome a heating load coming through the attic floor. Even a 2-inch loss in blown-in depth changes the R-value enough to notice on your bill.
  • Visible dark lines on the ceiling drywall. These are ghost stripes, not actual mold in most cases. They form where dust and soot from the attic air cling to the joist lines, which are slightly cooler than the insulated bays. It is a sign the insulation between joists has thinned to the point where the joists themselves are conducting attic heat into the room.
  • Rodent or pest activity in the attic. Rats, squirrels, and raccoons will tunnel through fiberglass and leave paths where there is no insulation at all. We have pulled back batts in Lakewood bungalows and found 4-foot stretches chewed down to the paper backing.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical 1,200 to 1,800 square foot attic in Dallas, a full Owens Corning blown-in installation lands between $1,800 and $3,200. That is AttiCat fiberglass blown to R-38 or R-49, which means roughly 14 to 18 inches of settled depth. If we are removing old, damaged insulation first, add $600 to $1,000 depending on what we find up there. Batt insulation jobs run slightly lower, usually $1,600 to $2,800 for the same attic footprint.

Every quote includes sourcing the Owens Corning material, hauling it to the house, running the blower machine, leveling and settling the fill by hand so the depth is uniform, and hauling away whatever remains. Glenn Hartley is particular about the leveling step, because a rushed crew that blows it in and walks away leaves peaks and valleys that create convection currents across the attic floor. That defeats the entire purpose. The written price you get before any work begins is the price you pay. No adjustments at the door, no surprise line items.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check your own attic insulation depth with a ruler and a flashlight. Measure in at least five spots, not just near the access hatch, because blown-in material migrates toward the eaves over time. If you find an average below 10 inches, you are under-insulated for Dallas.

What we do not recommend is renting a blower machine and doing the install yourself. The public rental machines run on a lower air pressure than commercial units, which means the fiberglass does not separate properly as it leaves the hose. You end up with clumps, uneven density, and pockets that settle within one season. We are also watching the temperature in a Dallas attic while we work; doing a full blown-in job in a 140 degree attic space without hydration, ventilation breaks, and the right protective gear is genuinely risky. Fiberglass fibers in the lungs are not a joke. Call us at (469) 916-4622 and we will handle it. We also carry Reflectix at the shop for the occasional radiant barrier request, but Owens Corning is our go-to for attic floor insulation.

Get a Written Price Before Any Work Starts

If your attic insulation is failing, the fastest way to figure out what it will cost to fix is to pick up the phone and call us at (469) 916-4622. A real person answers, day or night. We will ask about your attic’s square footage, what you have seen up there, and whether you want Owens Corning blown-in or batts, and then we will schedule a time to walk the attic and give you a written quote. That quote is guaranteed before anyone lifts a tool. If it is worth doing, it is worth doing so the insulation is still working right ten summers from now.
