Owens Corning Radiant Barrier Installation Nationwide

Owens Corning Radiant Barrier Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Radiant barrier installation for an Owens Corning system in Dallas typically runs between $1,200 and $2,800 for a full attic, with most single-story homes landing around $1,700. We stock Owens Corning-compatible radiant barrier material on our trucks and can usually complete the job same-day or next-day, depending on attic size and access. Most Dallas homeowners call us after noticing their upstairs rooms won’t hold temperature in July, their AC runs nonstop, or they spot sagging, torn, or dust-caked foil in the attic. The barrier itself doesn’t “fail” like a mechanical part, but installation quality, Texas heat, and time all take a toll on how well it performs.

Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

Owens Corning manufactures radiant barrier under a few product lines, most commonly seen in Dallas attics as either a foil-faced sheathing panel or a foil laminate stapled to the underside of roof decking. The two most common products we work with are the Owens Corning Foamular radiant barrier sheathing and their perforated foil laminate rolls. These are not interchangeable. The sheathing version installs during a roof deck replacement and works as a structural panel. The laminate version installs over existing roof decking from inside the attic and works as a retrofit. Glenn Hartley has pulled more than a few attic hatches open in Lakewood and East Dallas to find homeowners who bought the laminate online, only to discover their attic layout makes it impractical to install without dropping the ceiling. If you’re not sure which one you have, look for the Owens Corning logo printed on the foil face, or measure the material: the sheathing runs 4×8 feet, while the laminate comes in rolls of 24- or 48-inch widths. Woolsey Insulation Dallas is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Owens Corning, which means we can tell you honestly whether an Owens Corning product, a Reflectix alternative, or a different brand altogether makes more sense for your attic.

Signs Your Owens Corning Radiant Barrier Installation Is Failing

  • Sagging or drooping foil between rafters. This usually means the original staples or cap nails are backing out, or the installer didn’t space fasteners closely enough. Once the foil loses tension, it no longer reflects heat consistently and air gaps form behind it.
  • Visible tears or holes in the foil face. Punctures happen from cable pulls, HVAC work, or careless foot traffic. Even small tears let radiant heat through and reduce the barrier’s effectiveness by more than most people expect, because heat moves through any opening.
  • Dust coating so thick you can’t see the foil shine. Radiant barrier works by reflecting, not absorbing. A layer of dust cuts reflectivity substantially. In Dallas, where attics pull in dust through every vent, this is one of the most common silent performance killers we see.
  • Upstairs rooms running 8 to 12 degrees hotter than downstairs in summer. When the barrier was installed correctly, you should notice a real difference. If that difference disappears over time, the barrier has either degraded, disconnected, or was never installed to spec in the first place.
  • Visible staple lines but no foil attached in sections. Failed fasteners are the most common installation defect we correct. The material is still there, but it’s hanging loose or has fallen onto the insulation below, doing nothing for the roof deck above.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Dallas, expect to pay $1.50 to $2.75 per square foot for a full radiant barrier replacement, including material and labor. The range depends on three things: attic height and access (steep pitches and low clearances slow the work down), the condition of existing insulation (we may need to move or level it to work safely), and whether you want the foil laminate or the foil-faced sheathing. Most Dallas ranch homes run between $1,400 and $1,900. A two-story house with a complex roofline can push toward the top of that range. Every quote from us includes the material, the labor, the cleanup, and the Kingswell Guarantee in writing, a written price before any work starts, a committed arrival window, and a 365-day promise that if it’s not done right, we come back and make it right at no charge. There is no door-step number change. The price we write down is the price you pay.

DIY or Call Us?

Radiant barrier installation is not high-tension or electrical work, but it is genuinely dangerous for a different reason: Dallas attics in summer hit 130 to 150 degrees, and heat exhaustion sets in faster than most people expect. If you want to inspect your barrier yourself, do it early in the morning with a flashlight and a dust mask, and stay on the joists. What you can safely check: whether the foil is still attached, whether it’s torn, and whether it’s coated in dust. What you should not do: attempt a full replacement while balancing on rafters over a blown-in insulation layer you can’t see through. One wrong step and you’re through the ceiling drywall. We’ve repaired enough DIY attempts in the Lake Highlands and Preston Hollow areas to know the pattern. If the barrier is sagging or torn in more than a few spots, call us at (469) 916-4622 and we’ll measure, quote it in writing, and get it done while the attic’s still tolerable in the morning.
